30 Fall Outfits for 2021 Style Inspiration

Hi friends,

As you know if you’ve been following me for a while, I am a huge fan of the fall season and especially of dressing for cooler weather.

While it is currently storming outside where I live, we have had some cooler temperatures lately and I’ve been gathering lots of different styles and pieces that I plan to wear this season.

In this post, I’m going to share 30 of my favorite fall outfit ideas that will hopefully serve as inspiration for what you can wear this month and next.

All of these looks can be achieved with similar items you may already have in your closet. If you’d like to buy any of the exact items shown, there are links throughout (note that all are affiliate links and I may make a small commission if you choose to purchase through this post).

Let’s get right into it!

Casual Outfit Inspiration

Whether you’re at the pumpkin patch, meeting friends for lunch, or doing some Halloween decor shopping 😉, these cute, simple looks work for a variety of occasions.

Mock Neck Tank, Jeans, and Sneakers

I got this cropped tank during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and immediately thought of it as a fall piece. The tan color is so perfect for this season and I love the mock turtleneck.

Pair your cropped top with high-waisted jeans and some seasonal sneakers. I love these snakeskin and suede ones from DSW that are under $50. I got them last year but they’re back in stock and so good for the fall months.

Bodysuit, Jeans, Booties, and Cardigan

This year I discovered the Body Contour collection from Express and I’m so glad I did! The bodysuits and tanks are double-lined and designed to flatter the curves of your body. I got this brown one recently because I needed to replace an old cami.

It goes great with jeans and a cardigan, especially if fall is cold where you live. Add some tan booties to finish the look.

Mixed Media Sweater, Jeans, Booties

I do like to have some long-sleeved options for the fall, especially light sweaters. This one is super soft and feels similar to cashmere, but the faux leather sleeves make it more of a statement top.

Paired with gray jeans and some black booties—keeping it simple and dark for Halloween month!

Sweater Dress, Booties

Dressing casually doesn’t mean you can’t wear a good dress! I love sweater dresses for the fall and just got this one for under $20.

I kept it super simple with a pair of tan booties, but you can certainly spice this up with a wide-brimmed hat, a statement belt, or both.

Ruched Tank, Jeans, Booties

This is another casual option that pairs a tank with some jeans and a fall shoe. I love this ruched cami because the color just screams fall to me, and it’s a flattering fit that can easily be worn under a jacket or sweater.

I have it on with my go-to dark wash jeans and tan fall booties.

Tweed Mini Dress, Combat Boots

This is one of my favorite transitional outfits from this year; the tweed material is nice and thick but the fit of this mini dress keeps you cool. I love the style of this piece and can’t wait to wear it many different ways.

I added some edge to this look with black heeled combat boots, but you can also fall-ify it even more by adding a black hat and trendy accessories.

Shearling Jacket, Jeans, Heeled Boots

This jacket was another N Sale find and I can’t wait for the weather to be cool enough to wear it! The mix of cream shearling and brown faux leather create nice texture and color contrasts.

I had a cropped top under this jacket, along with high-waisted jeans and heeled Steve Madden boots.

Floral Midi Skirt, Tank, Denim Jacket

I wore this outfit in the spring but will definitely be bringing it back for the fall months. The pale yellow floral skirt is under $15, super versatile, and would look awesome with sneakers or booties.

I wore it with a neutral tank and added a classic denim jacket to help keep me warm.

Oversized Sweater, Faux Leather Leggings, Boots

Faux leather leggings are one of my all-time favorites for the fall—they go with so many different outfits and are super flattering. They also add a slight edge to your look which I am all about, especially during Spooky Season.

Wear them under an oversized sweater (I like one that’s long enough to cover my butt) and some boots or booties. I got both pairs of these shoes on sale recently.

Going Out Inspiration

Going out in the fall can sometimes be tricky—is the temperature going to drop down once the sun sets, or will the warm humid air stick around? Here is a variety of going out looks for different fall wether.

Bodysuit, Jeans, Heels, and Sweater

I definitely add more brown tones to my rotation for autumn, but black is still my most-worn color in any season.

A black bodysuit is a perfect closet staple for fall, especially if the weather varies where you live, because it can be layered or worn alone for a classic look.

For this look I added high-waisted jeans and a belt, plus some kitten heels and a sweater.

Faux Leather Jacket, Jeans, Boots

This is another one of my favorites for this year! The olive green faux leather jacket goes with so many outfits and really elevates each look.

I have it over a cropped tee, high-waisted jeans, and suede heeled boots.

The key here is pulling in a few different fall-friendly colors that work together but also stand out on their own.

Bodysuit, Faux Leather Pants, Boots

These faux leather pants are among my favorite new purchases! They’re super popular this year, so it shouldn’t be hard to find a fairly-priced pair if you don’t own one already. I love that these are fitted around the waist and butt, then flare out at the leg.

I love an all black outfit for any season, but particularly in the fall. You can replace my bodysuit with any black top (long or short sleeves, depending on the weather) and some badass boots (I’m wearing heeled combat boots because these pants are a little long on me).

Sweater, Jeans, Booties

This is a classic fall outfit but it can make a statement depending on which pieces you select.

Rather than a traditional sweater, I’ve chosen one with a halter-like neck and cold-shoulder detail.

I paired it with high-waisted jeans and added some heeled booties with a chain detail to make the shoes pop a little more.

Pleated Midi Skirt, Tank, Boots

This leopard print midi skirt is another find I’m super excited about! Pleated skirts have been popular for a few years, but I love that this one brings in one of my favorite patterns.

A midi length is nice for the fall because it keeps your legs covered, and you can wear a top with more or less coverage depending on the weather.

The skirt is also versatile in terms of a shoe—I prefer it with chunky boots but you can certainly dress it up more with cute heels.

Long-Sleeve Top, Suede Skirt, Booties

I’ve had this skirt since last year and it’s sill one of my go-tos for the fall. It’s the perfect color and goes with any other neutral pieces you may have in your closet.

I paired it with a long-sleeved top and booties here for a full fall look. I’ve also previously worn it with sweaters or tanks.

Formal/Semi-Formal Outfit Inspiration

For a more formal event, darker toned dresses are going to be great for the season. Depending on the location you can go long or short and, of course, jackets or sweaters are always a good opportunity to add to your look while staying warm in cooler temps.

Burgundy Maxi Dress

I was in a wedding this past weekend and wore this seasonal beauty! It is from Lulus and is sold out, but they have other pretty formal dresses in this same color for under $100.

One fool-proof way to dress up during autumn is to wear fall-friendly colors—for example, maxi dress in dark red or purple tones, different shades of tan or brown, pale pink, or dark green.

A maxi dress is also easy because you only need to add shoes and go! You can, of course, bring through more of your personal style with jewelry and accessories.

Patterned Wrap Dress

Another way to go is with a patterned, colorful dress that is both indoor and outdoor friendly. I wore this to a baptism recently and the short sleeves and above-the-knee skirt were perfect for the transitioning weather.

Amazon has a ton of pretty dresses like this in various colors and patterns—any of the would be great for the fall and you can dress them up or down with your shoes and other accessories.

Ruffle Midi Dress

Some dresses look good no matter the season, and this Amazon dress is one of them.

The classic red color stands out at any event or occasion. The fit is simple and flattering but the ruffle detail adds extra flair and fanciness.

This particular dress also comes in other colors, like a deep green, in case you want something more seasonal. Pair it with simple heels and dainty jewelry.

Corset and Tulle Gown

If you really want to turn heads, a black gown is especially stunning in the fall. This particular one is a splurge purchase, but it gives me some gothic vibes that tie in perfectly with the dark and spooky season.

You don’t need to do much else with such a statement dress—let it shine on its own by adding some low-key accessories. Or, play up the look even more with a gothic statement necklace.

Floral Midi Dress

In years past, I never would’ve thought of floral patterns as being appropriate for fall. These days, I have several floral dresses that I only wear in autumn.

I like this one for October and November because of the dark base that the flowers lay on top of. It’s more of a warm-weather fit but can be layered and worn with shoes that provide more coverage.

A dark floral pattern is more common these days, but still unexpected enough that it will stand out at a fall event

Faux Leather Pants, Blouse, Heels

Formal wear doesn’t only include dresses, so here’s an option with pants.

Faux leather pants can be casual or edgy, but can also look very chic when styled appropriately. This pair comes with its own belt and is more fitted around the ankle, which makes the outfit look more put together.

Since the pants are the star of the show here, add a pretty blouse or tank and some heels or boots to finish the look.

Black Dress, Faux Leather Jacket, Heels

If long dresses and ruffles aren’t your thing, there’s always the classic LBD! A form-fitting black dress is perfect for fall, whether you like a mini, midi, or maxi length.

Black also pairs so well with fall tones, such as my olive green jacket that I threw on top here. Since fall weather can vary so much, it’s great to have a dress option that looks good with or without a jacket over it.

Athletic/Lounge Outfit Inspiration

No matter the season, there are always going to be those lazy days. Days when jeans, dresses, or anything besides leggings just won’t cut it. Or, days when you’re staying home carving pumpkins and want to be cozy.

Tank, Leggings, Sneakers

My go-to lounge outfit for the fall is a pair of leggings, a tank top, comfy sneakers, and a hoodie to throw over it.

I think most of us have these items in our closets, but if you’re looking to refresh your stock I love the Spanx booty boost leggings and I got this racerback, slightly cropped tank in a 3-pack from Amazon.

If you’ve seen my other posts you’ve probably seen these leopard print sneakers because I’m obsessed with them! The black and white design goes with pretty much everything I own.

Matching Workout Set, Sneakers

Sometimes I want to be comfy but also to look stylish, so I love matching workout sets for those occasions.

You can often find both pieces of a set on sale, and if you go with a more common color it’s easy to swap out the tank top for a long sleeves something else that fits with the current weather.

The sneakers can also be a neutral color or include pops of the color of your outfit to tie it all together.

Baseball Top, Leggings, Sneakers

MLB postseason always takes place in the fall, and as a huge Yankees fan I love to represent my team during this time!

Football and hockey are also happening during the fall months, so pair your favorite team’s merch with some basic leggings, casual shoes that match, and you’re good to go!

If you’re looking for sports apparel, American Eagle and Forever 21 have some, but you can also find them on the MLB/NFL/NHL websites, sporting goods stores, and some department stores.

Matching Lounge Set

I’m still working from home, so I wear lounge sets pretty often. I love ones that are extra soft and a long sleeve/shorts or short sleeve/pants combo—I get too cold if it’s both short sleeves and shorts.

I love sets like this because they’re super cozy for staying home but also cute enough that you can run out in them if needed. This particular one was a recent sale purchase and I never want to take it off, it’s so soft!

Halloween (Non-costume) Outfit Inspiration

Obviously the best thing about fall is that it’s Halloween season! If you like to represent all October long, like I do, then these outfit ideas are perfect for you. They aren’t costumes but more casual ways to show your love of all things spooky.

Screen-Printed Sweatshirt, Jeans, Boots

There’s no shortage of printed or graphic tops with Halloween designs this time of year, so take your pick and wear it proudly!

This one is a spooky take on the tongue out trend that’s been so popular, and I love the oversized fit of the sweatshirt.

Jeans and chunky boots complete this simple look. An easy way to stay holiday-appropriate without much effort and with plenty of comfort.

Bat Sweater, Jeans, Booties

This sweater is one of my recent favorites because it’s super cozy and I love the pattern.

I’ve seen a ton of skulls, pumpkins, and spiders for Halloween but bats seem to be less popular, at least when it comes to clothing.

You can achieve this look with any patterned knit sweater, some dark jeans, and booties of your choice.

Skull Button Down, Jeans, Booties

For a more polished Halloween look, try a button-down shirt with a spooky pattern. I couldn’t pass up these leopard print skulls because they combine two of my all-time favorites!

The button down can be worn either tucked in or pulled out, and it would go with jeans, leggings, or a skirt.

Add your favorite booties to tie it all together.

Pattern Midi Skirt, Bodysuit, Booties

What better way to show your Halloween spirit than to wear a fun Halloween skirt? The pattern on this one includes skulls, pumpkins, bats, and other random things like mushrooms, trees, and lollipops.

Your Halloween-themed skirt can be paired with a simple black top and some black booties.
