I hope your 2021 is off to a great start. So far, I’ve just been trying to keep my stress levels low, taking down our holiday decorations, and, of course, shopping.
I was recently on the hunt for a basic black turtleneck, and I found such a good one for under $15 on Amazon. There’s so much you can do with a closet staple like that, and I’ve definitely been feeling inspired to style it different ways.
I came up with some awesome outfits and wanted to share them with you.
I’ve linked everything in case you want to recreate these exact outfits, but all of these looks can be achieved with a variety of different items, most of which you might already have in your own wardrobe!
Here are six budget-friendly looks you can create with a simple black turtleneck.
If you’ve been following my blog for a little while, you know that I’m a sucker for a casual outfit. This one is both comfy and cute, and you really don’t need much to make it work!
Get the look: Pair your black (or solid colored) turtleneck with some jeans and a cute pair of sneakers. I chose gray jeans from Abercombie and black New Balance sneakers with a pop of leopard on the logo.
Introducing: the look that inspired this entire post. I was originally looking for a black turtleneck because I love the way they look underneath moto jackets. Something about the way the sleeves, bottom, and top of the shirt peek out and create a color contrast just makes me swoon.
Get the Look: Throw any moto or leather jacket over your turtleneck; I like the white/black combo, but this would look great with any solid colored jacket. Add some over the knee boots or other statement shoes to take it up a notch.
Surprise, my favorite Amazon joggers are making another appearance! With a lot of us still working from home for at least the near future, I had to include a comfy option in this bunch.
Get the Look: This is a super easy one; wear the turtleneck with your favorite pair of sweatpants, joggers, or leggings and some comfortable footwear. I chose these buttery soft, olive green joggers and Adidas running shoes.
Another great thing about a basic top is that it’s so easy to dress up or down. This turtleneck absolutely works for a date night or other dressier outfit.
Get the Look: Tuck your turtleneck into a skirt and add some heels or booties. This suede skirt is currently on sale and is perfect for a date night look, but a maxi or midi skirt could work just as well if that’s more your style. I’d wear it with some chic heeled booties.
If the weather gets cold where you live, you’ll definitely need some options for layering. Neutral tops can be paired with so many fun jackets and pullovers for a style that is both fashionable and functional.
Get the Look: Layer on your favorite outerwear and complete the look with some cold-weather shoes. This corduroy jacket has been my go-to lately, and I love that the shearling lining matches so well with my boots.
I haven’t been a huge fan of the shirt-under-dress trend in the past, but I’m definitely warming up to it now. I was pleasantly surprised by how this one came out, and it’s actually one of my favorite looks from this post!
Get the Look: Wear your turtleneck underneath any cami or tank top dress. I’ve found that dresses with sweetheart, V-, or scoop necklines look best with a shirt underneath, but try out different styles from your wardrobe and see what you like best! Finish the look with some booties or sneakers.
