House Tour: Our Spooky Half Bath

Hey gals and ghouls,

We’re only a few days into October, but so much has happened in the world and for us personally already!

I’m so glad it’s Halloween season, because there’s no better way for me to take a break from the overwhelming stress of reality than to escape into my love of horror.

I came up with something fun to do this month called The Sunday Scaries.

Every weekend this month I’ll write a new post that is somehow horror themed. I think it’ll be fun and different! 🙂

I’ve also been meaning to show you more of the new house, and our half bathroom just so happens to check both of those boxes!

I’ve mentioned before that I have been a fan of all things scary since I was a little kid. Since I’m such a big fan of the genre, I really wanted to incorporate that into the new house.

My husband and I brainstormed and came up with several different ideas – some that didn’t pan out, some that did!

The biggest and best one that did was what we call The Horror Bathroom. (Joe would want me to say here, “It’ll scare the sh*t out of you.”)

I had so much fun putting this space together; it’s equal parts fun design, new purchases, and items that I’d already collected in years past.

Here’s a tour of our horror-themed half bathroom! I’ve included links throughout in case anyone wants to know where we got anything.

I think the size of this space really helped make everything work. We tend to lean towards minimalism with our house design, and some of that is being pulled through here.

Because there isn’t a ton of wall space or floor to fill, we were able to really dress it up and add some easter eggs without making it feel crowded.

These walls are the same Behr Classic Silver color runs through the entire first floor of our home, except for the wallpapered dining room.

To add a little more shock value to the room, we threw in a black semi-gloss trim and door. But, as always, my favorite parts are the details.

Over the years, I’ve collected quite a few creepy prints, drawings, and other wall art. I never really found the right place to display them in my condo, so I was really excited to get them up in the new house.

The IT newspaper print was a gift from my brother-in-law, along with another The Great Gatsby newspaper print that is in my library.

The adorable horror bunnies were a great Etsy purchase of mine from years ago. I got it from this Etsy shop.

These hand-shaped lights were one of the last things we found for the bathroom, and they’re actually a dark bronze color that we weren’t confident would match the black mirror.

They ended up looking great, and I’m really happy with our decision to flip one of them upside down.

The shadows and sci-fi vibe they create when turned on, especially at night, is awesome.

The vanity was a great find from Home Depot, and the REDRUM hand towel and soap dispenser are both from Etsy.

Basically, if you want cool horror-themed anything, it’s probably on Etsy.

The black toilet was a must for this room and, to be honest, I kind of wish we’d gone with a black toilet in our master bathroom.

The IT shelf was something I went back and forth about buying, but ultimately I’m glad I did and I think it adds a nice pop of blood read to match the one on the REDRUM hand towel.

I got the Silence of the Lambs and Friday the 13th at a horror convention.

Another great tip – there are a ton of different skull items for the home on Amazon. I already posted about the crystal skull knobs I got for my closet, but this toilet paper holder and toilet brush are two more Amazon finds.

I got Psycho newspaper sign at a horror convention, but this Etsy print is similar, and the Silence of the Lambs themed lotion dispenser is from Etsy, as well.

We also threw another horror convention purchase on the ceiling, in case anyone thought we had no tricks left up our sleeves.

What do you think of our horror-themed bathroom? There are still a few more things I want to add, but overall I’m really happy with it and can’t help but smile to myself every time I walk in there.

I hope you have a good Sunday that’s only filled with the good kind of scaries.
